As lawmakers will be returning to Washington D.C. after the July 4 holiday week, nearly 10 House Democrats have said that they did not want President Joe Biden to continue seeking re-election.
Despite the fact that Biden is still the presumptive Democratic nominee at the moment, there have also been reports that Virginian Senator Mark Warner is rallying a group of Senate Democrats to support this outlook.
Biden’s interview on Friday evening with ABC News has not done much to quash worries about his acuity. The 22-minute segment was viewed as only just enough to keep him in the race, but not credible enough to dismiss doubts about his fitness for office.
The return of lawmakers to Washington is seen as a crucial moment that may reshape Biden’s candidacy.
The decisions and discussions in the coming days will likely have a significant effect on the Democratic nomination process.
Should Biden decide not to run, it is generally believed Vice President Kamala Harris would be his successor.
TD Cowen strategists said if it wasn’t Biden, it was difficult to see how it would not be the VP. They believed Biden would endorse Harris together with the Clintons and Obamas.
The strategists added she would have access to approximately $200M in campaign funds.
