Court Issues Warrant to Arrest a Doctor Over Health Conditions of Binance Executive
Local media reports in Nigeria revealed that Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court issued a bench warrant to arrest Dr. Abraham Ehizojie for not producing a medical report for Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan or appearing in court.
Dr. Ehizojie is reportedly a medical doctor at the Kuje Correctional Centre. This comes after Justice Nwite asked the Nigerian Correctional Services to produce medical reports for Gambaryan, warning that non-compliance would attract consequences.
Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, said they did not follow the judge’s order and requested a bench warrant for the doctor’s arrest and remand Gambaryan to a hospital for immediate medical diagnosis, based on deteriorating health conditions which include severe back pain.
“My client came in here in a wheelchair. He has been complaining of back pain. We need to be careful of the life in our hands,” said Mordi. After criticizing the disregard for court orders and issuing a bench warrant for Dr. Ehizojie, the Justice ordered them to take Gambaryan to Nizamiye Hospital to undergo a 24-hour medical checkup under full security.
Likewise, he adjourned the case to October 11. Last month, the High Court dismissed tax evasion charges against Binance executives Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, but are still facing money laundering charges.
Last week, Congressman Rich McCormick introduced H.Res.1348 in the United House of Representatives, urging the Nigerian government to immediately release Tigran Gambaryan from imprisonment.
The resolution urged the U.S. government to formally declare Gambaryan as a “U.S. citizen wrongfully detained by a foreign government” in line with the hostage Act. Likewise, it urged the Nigerian government to provide full consular access to him, unrestricted medical access, and “constitutionally afforded due process rights and universally recognized human rights.”
