Biden Mistakenly Introduces Zelensky from Ukraine As Putin

On Thursday, during a NATO summit in Washington, U.S. President Joe Biden incorrectly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin.” This error came as more Democratic party members urged the 81-year-old to reconsider his efforts to be re-elected. The blunder elicited gasps from the audience.

Biden corrected himself quickly and said he was focused on beating Putin, hence the error.

The incident came amid an increasing number of Democrats urging Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.

Biden has been dealing with stuttering for decades and made the mistake less than an hour before facing reporters in Washington at his first news conference since a faltering June debate against ex-President Donald Trump. The debate and other verbal error have increased worries about Biden’s mental acuity.

During the news conference Biden dismissed questions about his campaign despite these concerns, and emphasized his commitment to completing the work he began in 2021.

He said if he slowed down and couldn’t get the job done, that would be an indication that he shouldn’t be doing it. He however added that there was currently no indication of that.

Several more Democratic lawmakers publicly called for Biden to step down shortly after the news conference, as they joined at least 12 others who had expressed similar sentiments after the debate.
